Is the screen the only damaged part?

A cracked or black screen does not always mean the screen is the only problem. Your iPhone may still ring or vibrate even when the display has failed. Green lines, flashing, dark patches or touch that moves by itself can also point to screen damage. If the phone will not turn on at all, the battery, charging system, liquid damage or main board may be involved.

That is why we check the phone before replacing anything. We look at the screen, frame, cameras, Face ID, charging, speakers and buttons. We also check for liquid marks or a swollen battery. Once we know what is wrong, we explain the repair and give you a price before starting.

Screen damage

Cracked glass, coloured lines, flickering, black patches or touch problems usually point to a damaged display.

Bent frame

A bent corner or twisted frame can stop the new screen sitting flat. We check the frame before fitting a replacement.

Something inside the phone

Liquid, charging problems, battery swelling or board damage can sometimes look like a screen fault.

What happens during an iPhone screen repair?

The basic job is similar across the iPhone 15, 16 and 17 ranges, but every model opens differently. Screws, cables, adhesive and sensors are not always in the same place. Apple publishes a separate repair manual for each model and says its Self Service Repair program is intended for people who already have experience repairing electronic devices.

  1. Check the phone. We test the screen, frame, cameras, buttons, charging, sound and Face ID before opening it.
  2. Switch it off. The iPhone is powered down so it can be opened safely.
  3. Soften the screen adhesive. Controlled heat and the correct tools help release the seal. Loose glass is handled carefully so it does not fall inside the phone.
  4. Open the phone carefully. The screen is lifted in the right direction for that model. The battery is disconnected before we touch the display cables.
  5. Look for hidden damage. We check the frame, inside of the phone, moisture marks, loose parts and battery condition before fitting the new screen.
  6. Connect and test the new screen. We fit the screen you approved and test it before closing the phone.
  7. Apply new adhesive. The old seal is removed and fresh adhesive is fitted. We do not promise that an opened phone will remain factory-waterproof.
  8. Test everything again. We check touch, brightness, colour, cameras, earpiece, buttons, charging and Face ID-related functions before handing the phone back.

What changes between iPhone 15, iPhone 16 and iPhone 17?

Each model needs the correct screen. A Pro Max screen will not fit a standard or Plus model simply because the phones look similar. The connectors, display, sensors, frame and repair steps can all be different.

Which replacement screen should I choose?

The best choice depends on your iPhone model, budget and how long you plan to keep the phone. A lower-cost compatible screen can suit some customers. Others prefer an OLED option for better black levels, brightness and a feel closer to the original screen. We explain the choices available for your phone before you decide.

Compatible LCD or incell

Usually the lower-cost choice where it is available. It may not match the original OLED screen for black levels, brightness, thickness, power use or touch feel.

Hard OLED

This uses a rigid OLED panel. It offers strong colour and contrast, but it is less flexible than soft OLED and may be more sensitive to another hard impact.

Soft OLED or verified genuine option

Soft OLED is flexible and is usually closer to the build and feel of the original display. We only call a part genuine Apple when its source and identification can be confirmed.

Some supported repairs may also need Apple’s Repair Assistant to finish the setup and install calibration data. On compatible iPhones, repair information can appear under Settings > General > About > Parts & Service History. Before approving the job, ask what screen will be fitted and what will be tested afterwards.

This short CMR workshop video shows a damaged iPhone 17 Pro Max screen being replaced and the phone being checked afterwards. It gives you a look at the repair, but it is not a complete DIY instruction video.

When a broken screen is not the only problem

A hard drop or liquid spill can damage more than the front screen. Tell us what happened and what the phone is doing now. That helps us check the right areas instead of assuming every phone only needs a new display.

  • The screen is black but the phone still rings: the display may have failed, but we also check the connection, power and board.
  • Green or white lines: this often follows pressure or impact damage to the OLED screen or its connection.
  • The phone taps by itself: ghost touch can come from the display, its connection, moisture or pressure from a bent frame.
  • Face ID stopped after the drop: the original impact may have damaged more than the screen, so Face ID needs a separate check.
  • The screen is lifting: impact, a poor fit or a swollen battery can push the display up. Stop using the phone and have it checked.
  • The phone got wet: turn it off and do not charge it. A dry outside does not mean the inside is dry.

Liquid can affect the screen, connectors and main board, so the whole phone needs to be checked.

Where can I get my iPhone screen repaired in Sydney?

You can walk into Cheap Mobile Repair at Burwood or Newtown. If you are in Parramatta, we offer pickup and delivery because Parramatta does not have a CMR walk-in shopfront. Check the relevant store page for directions and current opening hours.

Burwood is convenient for many customers from Strathfield, Ashfield, Homebush, Concord, Lidcombe, Auburn and the Inner West. Newtown is convenient for customers from Marrickville, Camperdown, Enmore, Petersham, Glebe, Broadway, Ultimo, Haymarket and Sydney CBD. These are nearby service areas, not additional CMR shops.

Should I replace an iPhone screen myself?

Apple says its Self Service Repair program is intended for people who already have experience repairing electronic devices. A modern iPhone screen repair involves sharp glass, heat, strong adhesive, a battery that must be handled safely and small cables that are easy to damage.

If you still want to try it yourself, read Apple’s repair manual for your exact model before buying anything. Stop if the battery is swollen, the frame is bent, the phone has liquid damage or you are not sure which model you have. A small mistake can turn a screen repair into a more expensive problem.

30 common questions about iPhone repair in Sydney

Where can I get my broken iPhone screen repaired in Sydney?

Cheap Mobile Repair repairs broken iPhone screens at its Burwood and Newtown walk-in shops. Pickup and delivery is also available in Parramatta. We repair iPhone 15, 16 and 17 models, check the phone first, explain the available screen choices and give you a price before starting.

How much does an iPhone screen replacement cost in Sydney?

At Cheap Mobile Repair, the price depends on your exact iPhone model, the screen you choose and whether the drop caused any other damage. Current iPhone 15 to 17 screen prices start from $149. Prices and stock can change, so check the live price table or call before coming in.

How long does an iPhone screen repair take?

Many straightforward screen repairs at Cheap Mobile Repair take about 30–45 minutes when the correct screen is in stock. A bent frame, liquid damage or another fault can take longer because the phone needs extra checks. We confirm the likely repair time after seeing the device.

Do I need an appointment for an iPhone screen repair?

You can walk into Cheap Mobile Repair’s Burwood or Newtown shop without an appointment. For an iPhone 15, 16 or 17, it is still worth calling first so we can check that the right screen is in stock and tell you how long the repair is likely to take.

Can I wait in the shop while my iPhone screen is replaced?

You can often wait at Cheap Mobile Repair while an in-stock iPhone screen is replaced at Burwood or Newtown. A simple repair may take about 30–45 minutes. If the drop also damaged the frame, camera, Face ID or another internal part, we may need more time to check and test it.

Will replacing my iPhone screen erase my photos or data?

Cheap Mobile Repair normally replaces the screen without deleting the photos, apps or other data stored on the iPhone. Even so, it is sensible to make a current backup before any repair if the phone still works. No repairer can guarantee data that has not been backed up.

Do I need to give my passcode for an iPhone screen repair?

Cheap Mobile Repair may need the passcode to test touch, cameras, sound and other functions after the repair. We explain what needs to be tested before asking for it. If you prefer not to share the passcode, ask us about another testing arrangement before the work begins.

Do you use genuine Apple screens for iPhone repairs?

Cheap Mobile Repair explains the screen choices available for your exact iPhone model. Depending on stock, these may include compatible LCD, hard OLED, soft OLED or a verified genuine option. We only describe a part as genuine Apple when we can confirm its source and identification.

What is the difference between LCD, hard OLED and soft OLED?

Cheap Mobile Repair explains each screen choice before you approve the repair. Compatible LCD or incell is usually the lower-cost choice where available. Hard OLED gives OLED colour and contrast on a rigid panel. Soft OLED uses a flexible panel and is usually closer to the build and feel of the original screen.

Will my iPhone show an Unknown Part message after screen replacement?

Cheap Mobile Repair will explain what message you may see before the repair. Apple says Parts & Service History depends on the model, the part fitted and whether Repair Assistant is completed. An Unknown Part message can appear when the phone cannot verify or correctly link the replacement part.

What is Apple Repair Assistant and does my iPhone need it?

Cheap Mobile Repair can tell you whether Repair Assistant applies to your iPhone and the screen being fitted. Apple uses it to finish supported repairs and install calibration information. On some iPhone 15 and later models, a Finish Repair step may appear in Settings under Parts & Service History.

Will an iPhone screen replacement affect Face ID?

Cheap Mobile Repair tests relevant functions before and after a screen replacement. A routine display repair should avoid damaging the TrueDepth-related components, but Face ID may already be affected by the original impact, liquid or internal damage. Any existing Face ID problem should be recorded and diagnosed before the repair proceeds.

Will True Tone still work after my iPhone screen is replaced?

Cheap Mobile Repair checks display behaviour after fitting the replacement screen. True Tone availability can depend on the iPhone model, installed display, repair method and any required calibration or repair-completion process. Ask the technician what to expect from the chosen option before approving the screen replacement.

Can only the cracked glass be replaced on my iPhone?

Cheap Mobile Repair first checks whether the picture and touch still work and whether glass-only work suits that model and condition. On many iPhones, the glass, touch layer and OLED or LCD are bonded together, so the complete screen assembly is replaced. We explain the suitable option after checking the phone.

Why is my iPhone screen black even though the phone still rings?

Cheap Mobile Repair treats a ringing iPhone with a black screen as a likely display fault, but still tests the phone before quoting. The OLED or LCD, display connector, impact damage, liquid exposure or another internal issue may be involved. Replacing the screen without diagnosis can miss the real cause.

Why does my iPhone screen show green lines or flicker?

Cheap Mobile Repair often sees green lines, white lines and flickering after a drop or heavy pressure on the screen. The OLED panel or a connector may be damaged. We also check the frame and internal connections before replacing anything. Back up the phone if possible and avoid pressing on the damaged screen.

Why is my iPhone tapping by itself or not responding to touch?

Cheap Mobile Repair checks ghost touch and dead touch areas for display damage, a poor connection, frame pressure, moisture or another internal fault. If the phone is opening apps by itself, power it down when safe. A technician should test the full touch area before and after any replacement display is fitted.

Can a water-damaged iPhone screen be replaced?

Cheap Mobile Repair can replace a screen after liquid exposure, but the phone must first be checked for moisture and corrosion. A new screen will not fix liquid damage elsewhere inside the device. Turn the iPhone off, do not charge it and arrange an inspection as soon as practical.

Can an iPhone screen be replaced if the frame is bent?

Cheap Mobile Repair checks the frame before fitting a new iPhone display. A small impact mark may be manageable, but a significantly bent or twisted housing can stop the screen sitting safely and can place pressure on the replacement. The technician will explain whether frame or enclosure work is needed first.

Can the screen and back glass be repaired in the same visit?

Cheap Mobile Repair can check the front screen and back glass during the same booking. Whether both can be repaired in one visit depends on the iPhone model, the parts in stock and the condition of the frame. We inspect the damage and give you a price before starting.

Which iPhone 15 models can have their screens replaced?

Cheap Mobile Repair offers screen-replacement options for the iPhone 15, iPhone 15 Plus, iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max. Each model uses its own display, so the team confirms the exact device and available screen choices before quoting. Stock and final price should be checked before travelling.

Which iPhone 16 models can have their screens replaced?

Cheap Mobile Repair repairs screens on the iPhone 16, iPhone 16 Plus, iPhone 16 Pro, iPhone 16 Pro Max and iPhone 16e. Each model uses a different screen and may have different options and prices. We confirm the exact model, test the phone and explain the choices before starting.

Which iPhone 17 models can have their screens replaced?

Cheap Mobile Repair provides screen-replacement options for the iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Pro, iPhone 17 Pro Max and iPhone 17e. Screen availability and repair choices vary by model, so call before travelling. A technician confirms the damage, explains the suitable part and provides an upfront quote first.

Does an iPhone Pro Max screen cost more to replace?

Cheap Mobile Repair prices each screen by the exact model and display option. Pro Max displays are larger and can cost more than the standard model, but the final difference depends on the generation and available part. Check the current CMR price table rather than assuming one price covers every iPhone.

Can a swollen battery lift or crack an iPhone screen?

Cheap Mobile Repair treats a lifting screen, unusual gap, heat or battery swelling as a safety concern. Stop charging and using the iPhone when practical, do not press the display back into place and arrange inspection promptly. The battery, screen and frame should be checked before any replacement is approved.

What warranty covers an iPhone screen repair?

Cheap Mobile Repair provides a six-month warranty on eligible repairs. Coverage depends on the supplied part, completed work and applicable exclusions. Accidental impact, liquid damage or a separate new fault is not the same as a defect in the repair. Ask for the relevant warranty terms before approving the job.

Which Sydney suburbs does Cheap Mobile Repair serve?

Cheap Mobile Repair serves Sydney from walk-in shops in Burwood and Newtown, with pickup and delivery available in Parramatta. Customers also travel from nearby Inner West, western Sydney and Sydney CBD suburbs. Service-area references do not mean CMR has a shopfront in every listed suburb.

Does Cheap Mobile Repair have a walk-in shop in Parramatta?

Cheap Mobile Repair does not have a walk-in shopfront in Parramatta. Parramatta customers can use pickup and delivery for eligible repair work. For a walk-in iPhone screen repair, use the Burwood or Newtown shop and check current parts availability and opening hours before travelling.

Should I repair or replace an iPhone with a broken screen?

Cheap Mobile Repair can inspect the phone and give you a repair price before you decide. A screen repair often makes sense when the rest of the iPhone is working well. The phone’s age, battery health, storage, frame condition and any other faults can all affect the decision.

Is a DIY iPhone 15, 16 or 17 screen replacement a good idea?

Cheap Mobile Repair recommends professional help unless you already have the right tools and experience. Newer iPhones use strong adhesive, delicate cables and model-specific repair steps. Broken glass and battery damage can also be dangerous. The phone must be tested properly and may need Repair Assistant after the screen is fitted.
