iPad Battery Replacement
iPad shutting down with charge still showing, or only working while plugged in? We replace iPad batteries at our Burwood and Newtown workshops, usually the same day, with a six-month warranty. Free diagnosis and a fixed price before we start.
Professional iPad Battery Replacement
An iPad battery is a consumable part. Apple rates most for around a thousand charge cycles, which for ordinary use means three to five years before capacity drops enough to notice. When it goes, it rarely announces itself politely — the tablet simply shuts down with charge still on the indicator, or refuses to run away from a power point.
Replacing one properly is careful work. On every modern iPad the battery is glued flat across the inside of the case, directly beneath the display assembly. It has to be released with controlled heat and patience rather than levered out, because a punctured cell is both dangerous and expensive. Done badly, the frame bends and the screen never seats correctly again.
We do this work in house, test the charging behaviour afterwards, and dispose of the old cell responsibly. Lithium batteries do not belong in household waste, and a swollen one is genuinely hazardous.

Signs Your iPad Battery Needs Replacing
- Shutting down while charge still shows remaining
- Charge draining within a couple of hours of normal use
- Only running while connected to the charger
- Taking far longer to charge than it used to
- Running noticeably hot while charging
- The screen lifting away from the frame at an edge or corner
- The iPad no longer sitting flat on a table
- Sudden drops in percentage, such as 40% straight to shutdown
Swollen iPad Batteries
This is the one battery fault we ask people not to ignore. Lithium cells expand as they age, and inside a sealed aluminium tablet that expansion has nowhere to go except upward into the display. We see iPads with screens lifted clean off the frame, glass cracked from the inside by pressure alone, and cases visibly bowed.
If yours is doing that, stop charging it. Do not press on the back to test it, do not try to prise it open, and carry it flat rather than squeezed into a bag. Bring it to us and we will handle it safely. A swollen cell that is punctured or crushed can ignite.

iPad Battery Replacement Cost
Two things set the price: the model, since a 13-inch Pro cell is a larger and dearer part than an iPad mini, and the parts grade, which we explain rather than decide for you.
It is worth checking the battery before writing off an older iPad. A tablet that shuts down unexpectedly usually needs a battery, not replacing, and at a fraction of the cost of a new one it is normally the easiest money you will spend on it. If we think the repair genuinely is not worth doing, we will say so.
Frequently Asked Questions
How much does iPad battery replacement cost?
It depends on the model — a mini cell is a different part to a 13-inch Pro. Diagnosis is free and you get a fixed quote before any work begins, so you know the price before you commit.
How long does it take?
Most are done the same day. The battery is glued flat to the case on every modern iPad, so it has to be released with heat and patience rather than levered out. That care is what protects the screen and the frame.
How do I know the battery is the problem?
Charge dropping far faster than it used to, the iPad shutting down with charge still showing, only running while plugged in, taking hours to charge, or running hot. If the screen has started lifting at one edge, that is a swollen battery and it needs attention now.
My iPad screen is lifting at the corner. Is that dangerous?
Yes. A swollen cell pushes the display away from the frame and can crack it from the inside. Stop charging it, stop using it, and bring it in. Do not press on it to test it.
Will I lose my data?
No. Replacing a battery does not touch your storage. A backup beforehand is sensible as routine, nothing more.
Do you use genuine batteries?
We use genuine and high-grade equivalent cells depending on model and availability, and we explain the difference and the price before you choose.
Is there a warranty?
Six months on parts and workmanship. Batteries are consumable, so that covers faults and failures rather than the gradual decline in capacity that every battery has.
How long should an iPad battery last?
Apple rates most for around 1,000 charge cycles. For normal use that is roughly three to five years before you notice the difference.
Can you replace the battery on an older iPad?
Yes, right back to the iPad 2. Older models are often the ones that benefit most — a new battery can add years to a tablet that still does everything you need.
Do I need an appointment?
No. Walk into Burwood or Newtown during trading hours, or ask about free pickup and delivery if you are in Parramatta.
