iPad Charging Port Repair

iPad not charging, or only charging when the cable sits at just the right angle? We repair and replace iPad charging ports at our Burwood and Newtown workshops — and we check the simple causes first, because most of the time the port is not actually broken.

Professional iPad Charging Port Repair

Charging faults are the most common iPad problem we see after cracked screens. They are also the one where customers are most often sold a repair they did not need.

Here is why. An iPad lives in bags and on couches, and the charging connector is an open slot facing downward. Over years, pocket lint and dust compact into the bottom of it, packed harder each time the cable is pushed in. Eventually the cable can no longer seat fully, and the iPad stops charging or charges only intermittently. The port is fine. It is simply full.

So that is the first thing we check, and if a proper clean is all your iPad needs, that is all you pay for. Where the port is genuinely damaged — bent pins, a connector loosened by a fall while plugged in, corrosion after a spill — it is soldered to the logic board on most iPads. Replacing it is microscope work rather than a plug-in part swap, and we do it in house.

Signs Your iPad Charging Port Needs Repair

  • The iPad does not charge at all when plugged in
  • Charging only works at a particular angle, or if you hold the cable
  • The cable falls out easily, or feels loose in the port
  • Charging starts and stops repeatedly
  • Very slow charging compared with how it used to be
  • The iPad is not recognised when connected to a computer
  • Visible debris, or bent pins inside the connector
  • The port or cable getting hot while charging

If the iPad charges normally but drains within an hour or two, the port is not your problem — see our iPad battery replacement page instead.

Our Repair Process

  1. Free diagnosis. Cable, port, battery or board — we establish which before quoting.
  2. Cleaning first. If compacted debris is the cause, that is the repair.
  3. Fixed quote for anything further, approved by you before work starts.
  4. Board-level replacement where the port itself has failed, carried out under a microscope.
  5. Testing. Charging, data transfer and accessory connection all checked before handover.

Why Choose Cheap Mobile Repair

  • We check the cheap causes first. No selling you a port replacement for a blocked connector.
  • Board-level capability. Soldered ports and charging circuits repaired in house.
  • Free diagnosis and a fixed quote before anything is opened.
  • Six-month warranty on parts and workmanship.
  • Same day on most charging repairs.
  • Free pickup and delivery for Parramatta customers.

iPad Charging Port Repair Cost

Cost follows the cause. A clean is a small job. A soldered port replacement is board-level work and priced accordingly, because it involves removing the old connector without damaging the board around it.

Diagnosis is free either way, and the quote is fixed before work begins. If you decide not to proceed, you take the iPad away at no cost.

Frequently Asked Questions

My iPad will not charge. Is the port broken?

Often not. Pocket lint and dust compact into the bottom of the connector over years of use, and a proper clean restores charging completely. That is the first thing we check, and if that is all it needs, that is all you pay for.

How much does iPad charging port repair cost?

A clean is a small job. A port replacement is board-level work and costs more because the connector is soldered to the logic board on most iPads. Free diagnosis tells us which yours needs before you are quoted.

How long does it take?

A clean is usually done while you wait. A soldered port replacement takes longer, often the same day but sometimes overnight, because it is microscope work and it is not worth rushing.

The cable only works at a certain angle. What causes that?

Usually worn or bent pins inside the port, or a connector loosened by a fall while the iPad was plugged in. Both are repairable. Keep using it at that angle and you risk damaging the board underneath.

Should I bring my charger?

Yes, bring the cable and the plug. A surprising number of charging faults turn out to be a failed cable, and we would rather find that in two minutes than charge you for a repair you never needed.

Can you fix an iPad that will not charge at all?

Usually. If the port and cable are fine, the fault is often the charging circuit on the board, which is board-level repair — exactly the work we specialise in.

Will I lose my data?

No. Charging port work does not touch your storage.

Is there a warranty?

Six months on parts and workmanship, provided there is no new physical damage or liquid exposure.

My iPad got wet and now will not charge.

Treat that as liquid damage rather than a port fault. Power it off, do not charge it, and see our iPad water damage repair page — corrosion spreads while the board stays wet.

Do you repair charging ports on older iPads?

Yes, right back to the iPad 2, including the older 30-pin models.
