iPad Motherboard Repair
iPad dead, stuck in a restart loop, or not recognised by any computer? These are logic board faults, and they are where most repair shops stop. We repair iPad boards at component level under a microscope at our Burwood and Newtown workshops.
Professional iPad Logic Board Repair
When an iPad will not power on, shows no image despite clearly running, restarts endlessly or refuses to charge from any cable, the fault is usually on the logic board. That is the point at which most shops hand the tablet back and suggest buying a new one.
Board-level repair means something different. Instead of replacing the whole board — which on an iPad is most of the cost of the device — we work under a microscope on the individual components that have failed. Power management circuits, charging ICs, backlight circuits, connectors lifted by a drop. It is slower and considerably more skilled, and it is the reason tablets written off elsewhere are ordinary work here.
It matters for another reason too. iPad storage is soldered to the board, so a board that cannot be repaired is data that cannot be reached. Board repair and data recovery are often the same job.

Signs of an iPad Board Fault
- Completely dead — no response to any charger or button
- Apple logo appears then disappears, over and over
- Backlight on but no image, or image but no backlight
- Not recognised by a computer at all
- Will not charge from any cable, after the port has been ruled out
- Getting hot in one spot without being used
- Died suddenly after a drop or a spill
- Battery replaced elsewhere and dead since
Not all of these are board faults. A tablet that will not charge is often just a blocked port — see iPad charging port repair — and a restart loop can be software. We rule out the cheap causes before quoting the expensive one.

iPad Motherboard Repair Cost
Board repair is priced on what has actually failed, which is why it cannot be quoted over the phone. Diagnosis is the difficult part and it is free — you will know what is wrong, what it costs, and our honest view of whether it is worth doing before you commit a cent.
On older iPads we will tell you plainly when a board repair costs more than the tablet is worth. On recent Pro and Air models, repair is almost always the cheaper decision by a wide margin.
Frequently Asked Questions
My iPad will not turn on at all. Is it finished?
Not necessarily. A tablet that will not power on is usually a fault in the power or charging circuit on the board rather than a dead device. That is repairable at component level, and it is the work most shops send away or refuse.
What is board-level repair?
Working on the individual components soldered to the logic board — power circuits, charging ICs, backlight circuits, connectors — under a microscope, rather than replacing the whole board. It is slower and more skilled, and it saves iPads that would otherwise be written off.
How much does iPad motherboard repair cost?
It depends on what has failed. Some faults are a single component; others involve several. We assess first and quote before starting, so you are never facing an open-ended bill.
How long does it take?
Board work takes longer than a screen or battery job because diagnosis is the hard part. Expect a few days, and we will keep you updated rather than leaving you wondering.
Another shop said it cannot be fixed. Should I bother?
It is worth a second opinion. Most shops do not do board-level work, so “cannot be fixed” often means “we cannot fix it”. Tablets written off elsewhere are routine for us.
Will my data survive a board repair?
Usually yes, and often recovering it is the first priority. iPad storage is soldered to the board, so board repair and data recovery are closely linked — see our iPad data recovery page.
My iPad restarts in a loop. Is that the board?
Sometimes. It can equally be software, which is a far cheaper fix. We diagnose the two separately before quoting rather than assuming the worst.
Is there a warranty?
Six months on parts and workmanship. Boards damaged by liquid are the exception and carry no warranty, because corrosion can resurface later.
Do you repair boards on older iPads?
Yes, though on much older models we will be honest with you about whether the cost makes sense against what the tablet is worth.
What if you cannot repair it?
We tell you, and you pay nothing for the attempt beyond what was agreed. We would rather lose the job than take money for a repair we cannot deliver.
