MacBook Battery Replacement
Shutting down at 30 percent? Battery health warning, or a trackpad that stopped clicking? We handle MacBook Air battery replacement and MacBook Pro battery replacement at our Burwood and Newtown workshops, usually the same day, with a six-month warranty.

Professional MacBook Battery Replacement
Apple MacBook battery replacement is routine work for us, because a MacBook battery is a consumable. Apple rates most of them for around a thousand charge cycles, which for ordinary use means three to five years before capacity drops enough to notice. When it goes, it rarely announces itself politely — the machine simply shuts down with charge still showing.
On nearly every modern MacBook the battery is bonded into the top case with adhesive, which is why an Apple laptop battery replacement is a careful job rather than a quick swap. Done badly it damages the trackpad cable or the case. We remove the old cells properly, fit the replacement, and test charging behaviour and health reporting before the machine goes back to you.
We also dispose of the old battery responsibly. Lithium cells do not belong in household waste, and a swollen one is genuinely hazardous. For non-Apple machines, see our laptop repair services.

Signs Your MacBook Battery Needs Replacing
- Service Recommended or Replace Now in the battery status menu
- Sudden shutdowns while charge still shows remaining
- Charge draining far faster than it used to
- The machine only runs when plugged in
- A case that no longer sits flat, or a bulging underside
- A trackpad that has become stiff or stopped clicking
- Running hot, or fans constantly loud
- Cycle count well beyond 1000
The swelling signs matter most. A swollen cell can crack the display, break the trackpad and, in the worst case, catch fire. If your MacBook is rocking on the desk or the case has lifted, stop charging it and bring it in.

Why Choose Cheap Mobile Repair

MacBook Battery Replacement Cost
MacBook battery repair is priced on two things: the model, since a 16-inch Pro cell is a larger and dearer part than a 13-inch Air, and the cell grade, which we explain rather than decide for you.
Diagnosis is free and the quote is fixed before work starts. It is worth checking the battery before assuming the worst about an older MacBook — a machine that shuts down unexpectedly often needs a battery, not replacing. At a fraction of the price of a new laptop, it is usually the easiest money you will spend on it.
Understanding Battery Health and Cycle Count
Every MacBook keeps a record of how hard its battery has worked. Hold Option, click the Apple menu, choose System Information and then Power, and you will see both a cycle count and a condition. One cycle is a full charge worth of use, whether that happens in a day or across a week.
Apple rates most modern MacBook batteries at around 1000 cycles before capacity drops meaningfully. Condition is the more useful number in practice: Normal means the battery is behaving, while Service Recommended or Replace Now means it has degraded past the point where macOS trusts it. A machine can still run on a battery in that state, but the shutdowns tend to start soon after.
Worth knowing: capacity decline is not a fault. A three-year-old battery holding less charge than a new one is behaving exactly as designed, which is why our warranty covers failures rather than the normal fade in capacity.
Swollen Batteries and Why They Matter
Swollen MacBook battery replacement is the one job we ask people not to put off. Lithium cells expand as they degrade, and inside a sealed aluminium chassis that expansion has nowhere to go except upward into the trackpad and outward against the case. We see machines that rock on a desk, trackpads that will not click, and in bad cases displays cracked from the inside by pressure alone.
The safety point is real. A swollen cell that is punctured or crushed can ignite. Do not press on it to test it, do not try to prise the machine open, and stop charging it — charging adds heat to a cell that is already unstable. Power the MacBook down and bring it in, and if you must transport it, carry it flat rather than in a tightly packed bag.
A failing battery often shows up as a trackpad or performance problem. You may also want our data recovery service, or our liquid damage repair page if a spill was involved.
Frequently Asked Questions
How much does MacBook battery replacement cost?
It varies by model, since a 16-inch Pro battery is a different part to a 13-inch Air. Diagnosis is free and you get a fixed quote before we start. Call with your model number for an indicative price.
How do I know if my MacBook battery needs replacing?
Hold Option and click the Apple menu, then System Information, then Power. If cycle count is high or the condition reads Service Recommended, the battery is near the end of its life. Sudden shutdowns at 30 percent are another clear sign.
How long does it take?
Most are same day. On many models the battery is glued into the top case, so it is a careful job rather than a quick clip-out, but it is still usually done while you wait or within a few hours.
My MacBook battery is swollen. Is that dangerous?
Yes, and you should stop using it. A swollen battery presses against the trackpad and case, can crack the display, and is a genuine fire risk. Do not puncture it, do not keep charging it, and bring it in promptly.
Will a new battery fix my trackpad?
Sometimes. A swollen battery pushes up on the trackpad from below and stops it clicking properly. If that is the cause, replacing the battery resolves it. If not, see our trackpad repair page.
Do you use genuine Apple batteries?
We use genuine and high-grade equivalent cells depending on the model and availability. We explain the difference and the price of each before you decide rather than choosing for you.
Will I lose my data?
No. Replacing a battery does not touch your storage. A backup beforehand is still sensible as routine.
Is there a warranty?
Six months on parts and workmanship. Batteries are consumable, so the warranty covers faults and failures rather than the normal decline in capacity over time.
How long should a MacBook battery last?
Apple rates most MacBook batteries for around 1000 charge cycles. For typical use that is roughly three to five years before capacity noticeably drops.
Can I keep using my MacBook while the battery is bad?
On mains power, usually yes, though performance may be throttled and a swollen battery should never be left in use. It is a stopgap, not a solution.
