Here is the thing most people do not know about MacBook touchpad repair when a trackpad has stopped clicking: the trackpad is usually fine. Directly beneath it sits the battery, and when a battery ages it swells. That swelling presses upward and leaves the trackpad no room to travel. The symptom appears at the trackpad; the fault is the battery.
We check for that before quoting anything, because replacing a healthy trackpad when the battery is the problem costs you money and fixes nothing. If the battery is the cause we will tell you, and the repair becomes a battery replacement instead.

Why We Check the Battery Before the Trackpad
It is worth explaining why our first move on a trackpad fault is to look somewhere else entirely. On every modern MacBook the battery sits directly beneath the trackpad. As lithium cells age they swell, and inside a sealed aluminium case that expansion pushes upward. The trackpad, which needs a millimetre or two of travel to register a click, no longer has room to move.
From the outside this looks exactly like a broken trackpad. The surface feels stiff, clicks stop registering, and the obvious conclusion is that the trackpad has failed. Replace it and the new one behaves identically, because the battery underneath is still pressing on it.
So we check for swelling first. If the machine rocks on a flat surface, if the underside has lifted, or if the trackpad sits proud of the case, the answer is a battery rather than a trackpad — and that is both cheaper and safer to deal with.
Force Touch and What Can Go Wrong
Force Touch trackpad repair is different work: since 2015 MacBook trackpads have not physically moved when you click. The surface is fixed, and a set of sensors measures the pressure of your finger while a small motor produces a vibration that feels convincingly like a click. It is a neat piece of engineering, and it changes what failure looks like.
A trackpad that has genuinely failed may click in one corner but not another, register double clicks from a single press, or lose gestures while ordinary clicking still works. Whether it is MacBook Air trackpad repair or MacBook Pro trackpad replacement, cracked glass is more straightforward, and on Force Touch models a crack often disrupts the pressure sensors as well as looking bad. Erratic cursor movement is the ambiguous one, because it can equally be a cable, a software issue or interference from a swollen battery — which is another reason we diagnose before quoting.

No. Trackpad repair does not touch your storage. A routine backup beforehand is still sensible.
